Byte Footage is a festival that investigates the appropriation and use of online digital archives. From Buenos Aires, the festival encourages art that reinterprets global digital content from a Latin American perspective.
In the virtual world, images and archives are constantly removed from their original context, appropriated and resignified. Byte Footage invites artists, academics and activists to think about the possibilities and the multiplicity of uses of these contents.
The first edition of the festival was held in 2018 at Centro Cultural Kirchner, the biggest cultural center in Latin America. The second edition of the festival is planned for late 2020, and it is centered on the examination of the interaction between humans and technological devices: the digital archive that humans constantly produce and the habits and effects that devices generate on contemporary bodies, sensitivities and affections. Beyond the festival, Byte Footage adopts diverse forms throughout the year and offers workshops, talks, and exhibitions.
